Strategic Plan Public Meetings

NEWTON, NC (June 26, 2019)—Newton will host a series of public meetings in July as part of the creation of an updated strategic growth plan for the city. All residents and business owners are encouraged to attend and take part in the process of crafting a vision for Newton’s bright future.

The meetings will each begin at 6 p.m. in the Gantt Room at Newton City Hall, 401 North Main Ave. Meeting dates and topics are:

  • 6-8 p.m. July 11: Economic development
  • 6-8 p.m. July 18: Parks and public safety
  • 6-8 p.m. July 25: Downtown Newton, appearance and image, and growth management
Newton adopted its first strategic growth plan in 2015 with the goal of helping Newton City Council, city staff, and residents work together to establish a vision for Newton’s future with concrete objectives to be accomplished over time. Since 2015, many of the recommendations outlined in the plan have been implemented. Input from Newton’s residents and business owners was essential to the 2015 plan, and their input will be essential to the updated plan.

Newton’s strategic planning process is being led by Colt Jensen, an intern with the city of Newton who is currently pursuing a master’s degree in public administration from Appalachian State University.

Also assisting is Creative Economic Development Consulting, whose services were retained thanks to a grant from ElectriCities. The Newton Business Advisory Committee is acting as a steering committee.
