Student Art Exhibit

NEWTON, NC (Feb. 28, 2019) - Following the success of its Arts @ the Library launch–including the debut of the Art-o-Mat vending machine and exhibits of local artists, folk art, and glass art–the Catawba County Library is hosting its newest showcase: an exhibit featuring the works of students at South Newton Elementary School.
The exhibit will be on display at the Main Library in Newton (115 West C Street) between now and March 20.

Jane Clark–a first-grade teacher at the school, as well as staff adviser for the Community Art Club–coordinated with the Newton Public Art Commission and the Catawba County Library to mount the exhibit. Works are largely two-dimensional and feature a variety of media.

The exhibit is intended to highlight the youngsters’ creativity and skills in a way that the general public can easily access. By encouraging artistic engagement and experimentation when students are young, the hope is that a lifelong curiosity will develop to inform future interests.

Arts @ the Library is made possible with a grant from the United Arts Council of Catawba County and partnerships with the Hickory Museum of Art and the Catawba County Friends of the Library.
