Teen Leadership Newton is an annual program hosted by the city of Newton. The goal of Teen Leadership is to create awareness of the Newton community and its organizations, committees, and boards. During a series of interactive sessions, student leaders discover ways they can get involved, develop leadership skills, and enhance community pride.

This year’s presenters included Mayor Anne P. Stedman, Mayor Pro Tem John Stiver, Police Chief Don Brown, Catawba County Commissioner Sherry Butler, the Rev. Bob Silber with Eastern Catawba Cooperative Christian Ministry, and city staff.

Local organizations and businesses that opened their doors to Teen Leadership participants included Dana’s Fine Jewelry, 2 Pink Magnolias, The Corner Table, and ZF.

Teen Leadership concluded with student presentations to City Council. Presentations were given on how to expand Newton’s population, achieving sustainability in Newton, Newton’s future, recreational opportunities for youth in Newton, and aesthetic improvements in Newton. The students’ ideas may be integrated into future city operations.

The city of Newton would like to congratulate all of this year’s teen leaders and thank all of our partners who worked to make the 2018 Teen Leadership Newton a success.
