History of Excellence
The City of Newton Finance Department has received the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) of the United States and Canada for our Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2014. This marks the 30th consecutive year that the City has achieved this prestigious award. This certificate is the highest form of national recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting that can be attained by a government entity.
The Finance Department oversees all functions of financial management in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and in strict compliance with the Local Government Budget and Fiscal Control Act.
